Brigadier General Amechi Agwu has officially taken over as the new Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 23 Brigade, headquartered in Yola, Adamawa State. He succeeds Brigadier General Paul Zawaya, who handed over command during a formal change-of-leadership ceremony steeped in military tradition.
The event featured the signing of handover notes, an address to troops, and the ceremonial lowering and hoisting of the brigade’s flag—a symbolic act signifying the transfer of authority.
In his farewell address, Brigadier General Zawaya thanked the officers, soldiers, and civilian staff for their support during his tenure and urged them to give even greater cooperation to his successor. He also appreciated the government and people of Adamawa State for their continued support in promoting peace and security.
Brigadier General Agwu, in his inaugural speech, pledged to consolidate on the gains of his predecessor and enhance the brigade’s operational efficiency. He reaffirmed the army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and called on all personnel to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism.
“The 23 Brigade will continue to play a pivotal role in maintaining peace and order in Adamawa State and across the North-East,” he stated.
