President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate removal of the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, along with other service chiefs, in what has been described as a sweeping reorganization of Nigeria’s military leadership.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President said the decision forms part of his administration’s strategic efforts to reinforce national security and enhance operational effectiveness within the Armed Forces.
According to the statement, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Musa. Others appointed include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will, however, retain his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu, while appreciating the outgoing service chiefs for their service and commitment to the nation, commended their roles in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity. He charged the new appointees to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and synergy in their new roles.
“The expectations of Nigerians are high. Our Armed Forces must remain united, vigilant, and resolute in the defence of our nation,” the statement quoted the President as saying.
All appointments take immediate effect, the statement concluded.
