In continuation of the seven-day national mourning declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government has officially announced Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following President Tinubu’s approval. In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister described the public holiday as a gesture of national respect and reflection.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with unwavering integrity, dedication, and a deep commitment to unity and national development. This holiday offers Nigerians a moment to reflect on his legacy and the values he stood for,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated.
Citizens have been urged to mark the day by promoting peace, unity, and patriotism — ideals that defined Buhari’s leadership and vision for a better Nigeria.
As part of the official mourning period, national flags will continue to fly at half-mast until Saturday, July 19, in accordance with the directive issued earlier on Sunday, July 13.
The Federal Government extended heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful repose of the late President’s soul.
