The Nigerian Army has announced fresh successes in its ongoing operations against criminal elements in Taraba State. Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), under the operational code name Operation Lafiyan Jamaa, have intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace across the state.
According to a statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the troops carried out a precision strike on May 3, 2025, following credible intelligence reports. The operation targeted Gafar Village in Ussa Local Government Area, a notorious transit point for bandits involved in attacks on locals and theft of motorcycles and valuables.
“During the operation, troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, neutralizing one bandit. They also recovered an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle previously stolen from a civilian,” the statement read.
In a separate operation, troops swiftly responded to intelligence about suspected bandits moving from Tongo and Garin Alkali in Adamawa State toward the Shana community in Bali Local Government Area, Taraba State. The soldiers tracked the suspects to Yunkunssu Forest, where they made contact and forced the criminals to flee under heavy fire.

During the follow-up search, the troops recovered a locally fabricated revolver, an AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“These successful operations highlight the unwavering commitment of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS to safeguarding law-abiding citizens in Taraba State,” Oni said. He further urged members of the public to continue sharing timely and credible information to assist the military’s ongoing efforts to rid communities of criminal elements.
