The Association of Online Editors (ACOE) held its much-anticipated executive elections on Friday, May 30, 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the leadership transition of the influential media body. The election, which drew widespread attention across Abuja’s digital journalism landscape, saw 29 accredited members cast their votes in what has been described as a transparent, peaceful, and highly competitive process.
With a total of nine executive positions up for grabs, candidates campaigned vigorously in the lead-up to the polls, promising innovation, unity, and professional excellence within the association. At the close of the electoral process, the results reflected both the confidence of the electorate and the growing maturity of online media professionals in Nigeria.

THE OFFICIAL RESULTS:
Chairman
Mr. Omoshola Akingboye emerged victorious as Chairman of ACOE, securing 28 votes, which accounts for 96.5% of the total votes cast.
Provost
Mr. Moses Akwashiki was elected as Provost with 23 votes, translating to 79.3% of the total.
Public Relations Officer (PRO)
Mr. Gbenga Olamikan clinched the position with a landslide, garnering 26 votes, equivalent to 89.6%.
Treasurer
Ms. Joy Odor was elected unopposed with 89.6%, confirming her broad acceptance among members.
Assistant General Secretary
Ms. Peace Ofeoshi received overwhelming support with 27 votes, securing 93.1% of the vote.
General Secretary
Mrs. Queen Kunde was declared winner with a vote weight of 75.8%.
Vice Chairman
Mrs. Yusuf .A. Khadija earned 26 votes, a strong 89.6%, cementing her position as Vice Chairman.
Welfare Officer
In a closely watched contest between Mr. Chidi Ugwu and Mr. Raymond, Mr. Chidi Ugwu emerged as winner with 26 votes and 89.6%.
Financial Secretary
Mr. Austin Ehikioya defeated Mr. Moses Okoye by polling 24 votes, which represents 82.7% of the total.

The election committee, in a post-election briefing, applauded the orderly conduct of members and reiterated the association’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and unity. Newly elected Chairman Mr. Akinboye pledged to work with his team to build on the achievements of past executives and elevate the voice of online editors nationwide.
The newly elected ACOE executive team were inaugurated yesterday by an NUJ/FCT council representative Ms. Joy Udem.
