The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has dismissed reports suggesting that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is on strike, affirming that all federal tertiary institutions remain open and stable.
This was contained in a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade Director, Press and Public Relations Federal Ministry of Education
According to the statement issued in Abuja, Dr. Alausa credited the prevailing academic harmony to continuous dialogue and the Federal Government’s firm commitment to meeting the needs of both academic and non-academic staff.
“It is not by chance that public universities have operated without disruption for the past two years a record not seen in decades,” he said. “This is the result of deliberate engagement, mutual respect, and a phased approach to addressing union demands.”
The Minister emphasized that the welfare of university staff is a core component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at strengthening human capital development. He assured stakeholders that efforts to improve working conditions and protect the academic calendar are ongoing.
“Our students are the heartbeat of this nation. Their education must not be interrupted. The Federal Government remains committed to working collaboratively with all unions to ensure that our institutions remain open,” he added.
Dr. Alausa urged the public to disregard false claims of an ongoing ASUU strike, describing the current calm in the university system as a shared success that must be preserved.
