Terrorism in North-WestIn a renewed push to intensify counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations in North-West Nigeria, the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have strengthened operational collaboration with the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC) of the Nigerian Air Force.

According to the statement, the partnership was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit by the Commandant of AWDC, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Jibia, to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 OPFY, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna.Receiving the AWDC delegation, Major General Koughna commended Air Vice Marshal Jibia for his distinguished service record and exemplary leadership across various command appointments.

He pledged the full support and cooperation of the 8 Division, underscoring the importance of sustained engagement and inter-service collaboration in addressing common operational challenges in the region.
The GOC further reaffirmed his commitment to supporting AWDC’s initiatives, assuring proactive assistance and cooperation even ahead of formal requests, in line with efforts to enhance joint operational effectiveness.In his remarks, Air Vice Marshal Jibia congratulated Major General Koughna on his recent appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership to positively impact the security situation in the North-West.
He noted that many Nigerian Air Force personnel are still not fully aware of the core mandates of the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre, which include the review, development and updating of Nigerian Air Force doctrine, employment concepts, doctrinal teaching, and the enhancement of operational competence.
According to the AWDC Commandant, these responsibilities are critical to facilitating joint operations through integrated exercises. He emphasized the need for increased sensitization, identification of operational gaps particularly in air-drone integration and the effective translation of doctrine into practical frontline applications.

Air Vice Marshal Jibia stressed that effective air-ground integration remains central to AWDC’s mission, as it ensures seamless coordination between air and land forces for optimal air power delivery in ongoing security operations.
The visit concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and group photographs, symbolizing the strengthened partnership between the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force in the fight against terrorism and insecurity.Olaniyi Osoba
