INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, Confirmed as Chief Host for Launch of Landmark Book on Election Journalism

‎The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, has confirmed his participation as the Chief Host at the public presentation of the new book titled “The INEC Press Corps: Chronicles of Nigeria’s Election Journalists.”

‎Professor Amupitan gave his official approval on Thursday during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Africa Eye News to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

‎Reaffirming INEC’s Commitment to Media Collaboration

‎The INEC Chairman’s acceptance underscores his dedication to fostering a stronger partnership between the Commission and the media  a relationship he described as central to Nigeria’s democratic development.

‎According to him, the Fourth Estate remains a vital pillar in promoting transparency, accountability, and credible electoral processes.

‎Also present at the meeting were the Head of the Voter Education and Publicity Department, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Mr. Dayo Oyetola.

‎About the Book and Public Presentation

‎Authored by Segun Ojumu, Chairman of the INEC Press Corps, the book draws on more than a decade of frontline electoral reporting spanning three general elections and numerous off-cycle gubernatorial polls.

‎

‎This groundbreaking publication is the first documentary-style compilation capturing the experiences, challenges, and behind-the-scenes realities of journalists who cover Nigeria’s electoral management body. It provides a rich historical record and an insider account of election reporting in Africa’s largest democracy.

‎

‎The public presentation is scheduled to hold on Friday, December 5, 2025, at The Electoral Institute (TEI). The event is expected to attract senior INEC officials, leaders of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), scholars, media professionals, and other stakeholders in the electoral space.
