Abuja — The Federal Government has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with a renewed focus on media collaboration, economic partnership, and security cooperation.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the Saudi Ambassador to Nigeria, Yosef bin Mohammed Al Balawi, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Describing the visit as a strategic engagement, the Minister said Nigeria values its longstanding relationship with Saudi Arabia and is committed to translating shared history into stronger institutional partnerships.

According to him, the Federal Government has endorsed three Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) proposed by Saudi authorities to deepen cooperation in the media and communication sector.
The agreements include collaboration between the News Agency of Nigeria and the Saudi Press Agency on news exchange; partnership between the Nigerian Television Authority and the Saudi Broadcasting Authority in radio and television broadcasting; and audio-visual regulatory cooperation involving the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission and relevant Saudi regulatory bodies.
The Minister said the agreements are expected to promote professional exchanges, balanced information flow, and media diplomacy between both countries.
Beyond media collaboration, Idris highlighted the importance of joint engagement within multilateral platforms such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and UNESCO, where both nations share common interests in promoting global peace, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable development.
He also acknowledged the longstanding religious and cultural ties between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, particularly in the facilitation of Hajj and Umrah operations for Nigerian pilgrims. The Minister welcomed ongoing discussions around the possible resumption of direct flights between Jeddah and Abuja, noting that improved connectivity would enhance tourism, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.
In his remarks, Ambassador Al Balawi expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Nigeria across strategic sectors, including economy, security, media, and political relations.
He reiterated his country’s commitment to supporting Nigerian pilgrims and expanding areas of mutual benefit for citizens of both nations.
Senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation were present at the meeting.
