APC Slams ADC Over Edo Shooting Allegation, Calls for Police Investigation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) linking it to a reported shooting involving ADC members in Edo State, describing the claims as unfounded and premature.

In a statement issued Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party faulted the ADC for accusing it before the conclusion of investigations by security agencies.

Responding to the ADC’s February 25, 2026 statement, the APC said blaming the party without verified findings from law enforcement authorities undermines due process and responsible political engagement.

Morka argued that by making such claims, the ADC had effectively positioned itself as “the accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge in its own cause,” rather than allowing relevant authorities to determine the facts.

APC Condemns Political Violence
While rejecting any involvement in the incident, the APC condemned violence in the political space and urged security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial probe.

“Violence of any kind in our political space is unacceptable and must be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians,” the statement read.
The party described the ADC’s reference to alleged “acts of terrorism” as reckless and insensitive, particularly at a time when security forces are confronting multiple security challenges nationwide.

Call for Comprehensive Investigation
The APC called on the police and other law enforcement agencies to carry out a speedy investigation into the Edo shooting and ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Maintaining that it had no role in the incident, the party accused the ADC of attempting to tarnish its image. It also suggested that investigators examine possible internal disputes and leadership tensions within the opposition party.
Focus on Governance

The APC reaffirmed its commitment to governance and highlighted what it described as recent electoral gains, including victories in municipal elections in the Federal Capital Territory, as well as constituency polls in Rivers and Kano states.

The party expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their continued support and reiterated its pledge to deliver good governance under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
