📍Abuja Media Report
Spokespersons of the Amasiri community in Ebonyi State have raised alarm over what they describe as serious threats to the lives and fundamental human rights of their people, alleging involvement of the Ebonyi State Government and the Nigerian military.
In a recent conversational discussion, Princess Joy Idam Omagha, spokesperson of the Amasiri community, alongside legal practitioner Xavier Chinaecherem Mkpachi-Oko, Esq., alleged that the community is facing intimidation and rights violations affecting thousands of residents.

According to them, the situation has escalated to what they termed “an international emergency,” claiming that the lives of over 30,000 people including about 48,000 registered voters in the area are under threat.
They alleged that videos and other materials documenting incidents in the community are already in the public domain and would be presented before the courts and relevant human rights bodies.
“We will explore the courts. The judiciary remains the last hope of the common man,” Mkpachi-Oko stated, expressing hope that justice would prevail despite concerns about alleged non-compliance with court orders in the past.
The speakers referenced recent public remarks by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in which he reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and pledged not to interfere with judicial decisions.
They expressed hope that any legal proceedings arising from the dispute would be respected and enforced in line with constitutional provisions.
The community representatives further argued that no government has the authority to undermine the fundamental rights to life and dignity of its citizens, insisting that accountability would eventually follow any proven wrongdoing, even beyond the tenure of public office holders.

They also expressed concern over the reported detention of community leaders, including a traditional ruler, describing it as troubling and emotionally distressing for residents.
While emotions ran high during the discussion, the speakers maintained that their preferred course of action remains legal redress and peaceful advocacy.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Government and the Nigerian military have not publicly responded to the specific allegations raised in the discussion.
The situation continues to generate debate among stakeholders, with observers calling for calm, independent investigation, and strict adherence to the rule of law to prevent further escalation.
